LACK OF SUNSHINE CAUSES ONE MILLION DEATHS A YEAR
If vitamin D3 levels amount populations worldwide were increased, 600,000 cases of breast and colorectal cancers could be prevented each year, according to researchers form the Moores Cancer Center at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD).

This includes nearly 150,000 cases of cancer that could be prevented in the United States alone.

The researchers estimate that 250,00 cases of colorectal caner and 350,00 cases of breast cancer could be prevented worldwide by increasing intake of vitamin D3, particularly in countries north of the equator.

The study examines the dose-response relationship between vitamin D and cancer, and is the first to use satellite measurements of sun and cloud cover in countries where blood serum levels of vitamin D3 were also taken.

Serum vitamin D levels during the winter from 15 countries were combined, then applied to 177 countries to estimate the average serum level of a vitamin D metabolite among the population.

An inverse association between serum vitamin D and the risk of colorectal and breast cancers was found.

Protective effects began when 25-hydroxyvitamin D levers ( the main indicator of vitamin D status) ranged form 24 to 32 nanograms per milliliter (ng/ml). In the United States, late winter 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels ranged from 15 to 18 ng/ml.

Previous research has suggested that raising levels to 55 ng/ml was actually optimal to prevent cancer, the researchers said.

To increase your vitamin D3 levels, the researchers recommended a combination of dietary methods, supplements and sunlight exposure of about 10 to 115 minutes a day, with at least 40 percent of your skin exposed.

NEW STUDIES SHOW STAYING OUT OF THE SUN IS DAMAGING TO OUR HEALTH
ITA Blames the Sunscreen and Cosmetic Industries, Along with Dermatologists, for Overstating Concerns about the Sun

WASHINGTON – Today the Indoor Tanning Association (ITA) accused the sunscreen and cosmetic Industries of unnecessarily frightening people out of any sun exposure, thereby contributing to vitamin D deficiency among Americans.

The ITA’s charge comes on the heels of two new studies showing that vitamin D, which is produced by the skin when it is exposed to ultraviolet light from the sun or tanning beds, protects against a number of cancers, including colon and breast cancer, in addition to decreasing the risk of heart disease.

One study – published in Circulation: Journal of the American Heart Association – found that individuals who don’t get enough vitamin D are at greater risk for heart disease. The stud’s lead author explained:

Lowe levels of vitamin D are highly prevalent in the United States, especially in areas without much sunshine. Twenty to 30 percent of the population in many areas has moderate to severe vitamin D deficiency…A growing body of evidence suggests that low levels of vitamin D may adversely affect the cardiovascular system.

“Junk science is driving the movement to keep people out of the sun,” said Sarah Longwell, Director of Communications for the Indoor Tanning Association. “We’ve been told for so long that any exposure to the sun is harmful. The fact is what is harming us is the deceptive misinformation campaign by the sunscreen and cosmetic industries that are complicit in overstating exposure concerns.”

Longwell continued: “Whether we are talking about food, wine or sun exposure, the message is the same: when enjoyed in moderation not only are these things not bad for us, they help us live better, healthier lives.”

PURCHASING PRODUCTS ONLINE CAN BE HAZARDOUS

When an offer seems too good to be true…most times it is. Purchasing products online at deeply discounted prices is no exception. Today, reputable tanning skincare companies will only offer their products through authorized tanning salons. If you are purchasing your products from anyone other than an authorized tanning salon, you are dealing with a scam artist. They most often are selling expired, used or fake products. Expired products have not only lost their effectiveness but can also cause skin irritations and rashes. Products with advanced skincare ingredients and accelerators have even been replaced with ordinary daily moisturizers. On occasion customers have even received used products. Opened products should be considered contaminated and should not be used. Unfortunately most of these products cannot be returned or refunded. Baja Beach Tanning Clubs suggest that you always purchase your skincare products from authorized salons to protect yourself from fraud. Additionally, trained consultants are always available to help you select the product that is best for your needs.
